An update regarding my long hiatus and future ideas for this blog

Hello, blogosphere.

It’s been a while.

A lot has happened since I created this blog for my personal branding class during my time in graduate school. Speaking of grad school, I finished it this year and now I officially have a master’s degree.

While I was in graduate school, I left my newsroom job to focus on classes (which was a HARD decision to make), started freelancing and landed my first cover story, launched a bullet journal Instagram account (mostly related to another grad school class) and uploaded new videos on my YouTube channel, such as my vacation back home in Puerto Rico and a “get-ready-with-me” style video with a more elaborate update on my long hiatus.

Of course, those are the fun updates of what I’ve done and where I’ve been, considering I dealt with grieving periods when my cat Pellet crossed the rainbow bridge and I saw my abuela one last time during my Puerto Rico visit last summer.

Even though I was busy with personal and academic responsibilities, it doesn’t excuse the radio silence in this blog and I’m a little upset that I haven’t done as much with it as I planned after my branding class. Sometimes, I look at my designated “brain dump” notebook and my WordPress dashboard full of ideas in its rough draft stages. Some of them aren’t relevant anymore so it’s not worth it to edit and publish it, too. How embarrassing.

With all that said, I’m gonna try and shift gears again and use this space for personal essay writing or fun updates that might be easier to read as a blog post. At the same time, I can’t ignore the elephant in the room regarding the popularity of short-form content like TikTok videos or Instagram Threads.

Maybe it’s my millennial brain talking, but I prefer to read long-form features or watch hour-long YouTube essays on topics I’m passionate about because it inspires me to do the same. In the end, it’s a matter of finding the right balance of what works best for each medium and making sure the content compliments each other without seeming redundant.

If you managed to not only read this far, but also click on the hyperlinks above: thank you so much and I’m sorry for the lack of blog updates. I’ll see you (hopefully) in my next blog post, and you can always find me on social media links listed above my website.
